Basics aren’t sexy. I remember when my parents built the house I grew up in, soon after buying the property the old house was torn down and the concrete was laid down for the new house.
Wood was set up to create walls, sheet rock went in, none of it looked impressive. Many months later….the carpet went in and my brother and I ran from one side of the house to the other; boy was I excited!
All the space to kung fu fight and be Power Rangers. It was glorious.
All of this horseplay wouldn’t have been possible without the basics.
I’m reminded of this constantly as I pick up new things from the fitness industry going to personal training seminars and trade shows. A squat is still a squat whether you do it with a barbell, a sandbag, on a BOSU ball or with a kettle bell.
The lunge can move in different directions but the principles are still there.
When I was learning Thai boxing I loved practicing the basic strikes, the more I practiced the better I became, the more power and speed rallied behind each of my blows. The sweet “Art of Eight Limbs“. The knees, the elbows, the shins, the fists but at the end of the day each one moved like a jab or a hook. The solid basic movements helped me become a Green Sash in Thai boxing..looking back what I learned in Thai boxing where the same movements that I learned in Isreali martial arts and that I read about in Tae Kwon Doe book years before.
Say it out loud: BASICS CREATE GREATNESS
Imagine going to the battlefield and not knowing the basics of how to use your gear. Your instructor shows you in 30 seconds and soon you’re taking fire. TRY TO WIN THAT BATTLE.
That’s the mentality many people have coming into fitness, they want to get in shape but they don’t take the time to really know and master the basics. Then it’s time to workout and you’re trying to figure out how to get your gear working while you’re getting peppered by snipers.
April 18th, at 11:30am to 1:30 am I’m having a seminar on the most important thing you’ll probably ever learn in fitness. THE BASICS.
Pushups, Lunges, Squats, Deadlifts….we’ll be covering
1. Awareness (Understanding)
2. PERFECT Practice (Drills)
3. Progressions (Moving Forward)
These are all the essential movements you must master to be effective during a workout.
Yes, skipping and running are movements too but those are locomotion not strength patterns.
The investment for you to come is cero cents and cero dollars. So in conversion to dollars that’s free.
Just let me know you’re coming so I know how many people to expect.
You’re probably wondering if your friend who needs the basics can come too? Yes, you are welcome to bring anyone who needs help learning how to use their body before rushing into a workout.
Just reply send an email to email@example.com with your name and their name.
